An apostille is a certificate that authenticates the origin of a public document. It is issued by an authority designated by the country where the document was originally created.

If you plan to use your documents overseas in countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for the Foreign Public Documents of 1961 (including the UK and Russia), you usually require an apostille. This convention simplifies the process of authentication, ensuring that a document with an apostille is legally recognised in all member countries.

Process Overview

The apostille process is similar to notarisation but requires the original document. Depending on the service level you choose, the process can take from 1 day (express service) up to 2 weeks. The translation documents are sent to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), where an official attaches a document (affixed to the original) certifying its legality.

If you are unsure whether you need an apostille for your documents, it is advisable to consult the recipient of your documents. You can also contact the Russian Embassy or Consulate for guidance, as most Russian government establishments require documents with an apostille.

Please note:

Only documents issued by UK authorities can be legalised by FCO.
FCO cannot legalise a passport. Your copy of your passport can only be legalised if it has been certified by a solicitor or a Notary Public.
Documents issued by Russian authorities can only be legalised in Russia. Please contact us if you require an apostille in Russia

Апостиль (Apostille) – международная стандартизированная форма заполнения сведений о законности документа для предъявления на территории стран, признающих такую форму легализации. Апостиль не требует иного заверения или легализации документа и признается официальными органами всех государств-участников Гаагской конвенции, отменяющей требование легализации иностранных официальных документов от 5 октября 1961 года. Российская Федерация и Великобритания являются участниками указанной конвенции.

Апостиль может не использоваться, если существуют правовые основания, отменяющие или упрощающие легализацию документа. Для проставления апостиля необходимо предоставить оригинал документа. Регистратор прикрепляет апостиль к оригинальному документу, подтверждая его законность.

Стандартный процесс занимает до двух недель, так как все документы передаются в Министерство иностранных дел и по делам Содружества. Стоимость услуги: £78 (normal service – up to 2 weeks). Апостиль можно также поставить за один рабочий день. Стоимость услуги: £168 (express service – 1 day).
