FIRST DOCUMENT – VISA APPLICATION FORM 

You need to fill in your Short-stay Visa Application Form legibly, and correctly, sign it, and be aware that addresses in Germany must specify the number, street name, city, and postal code.

FIFTEENTH DOCUMENT – DECLARATION OF COMMITMENT

Declaration of Commitment Verpflichtungserklärung is important to be mailed to you by your host in their original and signed by your host who wants to cover all your expenses during your 90 days visit to Germany. Declaration of commitment for Schengen visa is valid for 6 months since their date of issuance.

Conditions to your host to financially support you:

– your traveling purposes should be transparent. For example, the arrival and departure dates to or from Germany;

– financial independence of host to prove they have enough money to cover your costs;

– a registered residing address in Germany;

– host should have a residence, settlement permit, or another residence permit. The validity of such a residence permit should be beyond the period of your visit.

The documents (they need to be presented both in original and in copy) from the host to provide when applying for the declaration of commitment are:

– duly filled-out “Angaben zur Verpflichtungserklärung” Form;

– valid passport or ID card of your host;

– a copy of your valid national passport;

– proof that the host is a legal resident in Germany if the host is a foreigner in Germany;

1) German residence permit;

2) German settlement permit;

3) Another German residence permit of your host.

– proof of sufficient income or savings of your host:

1) proof of host’s income from employment;

– salary statements for the last 3 months;

– contract of their employment;

– the employer’s letter for the last 2 weeks. It must confirm the host is still their employee;

2) proof of host’s income or unemployment;

– determination notice ALG I. Issued by the Federal Employment Agency, showing your host is a recipient of unemployment benefit (ALG I);

3) proof of host’s income from self-employment;

– certificate of monthly net incomes from a tax consultant or someone else but signed by the host.

– Existing Business Evaluation (BWA) “Betriebswirtschaftliche Auswertung”. Showing the current cost/profit position of the company. Or, Revenue Surplus Bill;

– tax registration certificate. Or, business registration extract. Or, a shareholder contract;

– proof of funds from a job center if having a start-up funded by a job center;

– latest income tax assessment;

4) proof of host’s income from business activity:

– duly completed “Examination Report” and supporting documents stated in the report. The report has to be completed by a tax consultant or tax representative;

– tax registration certificate;

– existing business register extract;

– Income Surplus Invoice;

5) proof that your host has a residence:

– confirmation of registration;

– rental contract with a letter of confirmation by the landlord;

6) proof of host’s divorce from spouse or children (If the host has separated from their spouse and child, for which they have financial responsibility):

– proof of complete and monthly maintenance payments;

– certificate of maintenance advance fund from the youth welfare council;

– proof of paid maintenance obligations;

– court documents of an officially ended marriage.

* All documents must be presented both in original and in copy.

The fee to get this doc is €29 and €14, 50 for minors. Plus, an additional fee of 0.50€ is charged for each copy of the original documents.

The application for the commitment letter shouldn’t be made earlier than 6 months from your travel date. The host has to submit their evidence to undertake the commitment at the “Foreigners Authority” in the city they’re registered, residents.

This is done over an appointment to be made through phone, email, or in person, through the Information Office of the Foreign Office, also known as the Immigration Office.

Before booking an appointment, they have to answer some questions of officials like these ones:
